From the basics...

Know basic data   they will avoid you  lots of headaches

Types of 3D printers

There are different printers with different functions, configurations and supplies. SLM, SLA, SLS, FDM printers which will use materials such as metal powders, resin or plastics respectively.

modelado 1.jpg

files to print

To print a part, a previous design of the same is required, developing the model from scratch or with some type of scanning.

Subsequently they must be processed in formats compatible with your printer.

material.jpg

Know the printing material

It is a very good idea to learn more about the material with which the printer works, to know  how to preserve it, what temperatures it requires, what type of handling and what  precautions you must take.

trabajo 2.jpg

Work space

It is common not to give importance at first,  however, the environment will impact not only the quality of your pieces but also the  in your health.  Avoid direct currents in your prints, stabilize temperatures and/or vibrations.

cursos.jpg

Consider taking courses

In the case of not knowing electronics, computing or design, it would be highly recommended to take courses, there are many available!  3D printing requires certain technical skills that will make you enjoy your printer or just the opposite, make it  aside.

paciencia 3.jpg

Patience

3D printing is an activity that is sometimes very time-consuming, it will take you  print  from 15 minutes to  various  days  only one piece.

configuracion.jpg

Settings

Printing a part does not stop at just pressing a button. Once we have our design we will have the following points to consider: Type of piece, type of material and  printer type. The ability to make good configurations will be reflected in our work.

Basic Parameters FDM Printers

In the following list you will find points to consider when printing:

Physically and mechanically check your printer

Belts taut and in good condition, bolts well adjusted, fans running and bearing systems well lubricated.

Flawless electronics

Cables that cause current leaks, Resistors and thermistors without burns or cuts, Power source clean and working properly.

Construction bases in good condition

Whether due to use or lack of precaution, the bed of your printer can be damaged, drastically affecting your prints, it is important that if it presents  any damage, be  broken, bent  or deformed  consider replacing it.

Adhesion of your print

It is very important to take into account what type of filament you are going to use and the material of your printing base.

A hot bed with some PLA filament is probably not necessary, but if your base is made of glass, it will surely be necessary not only to heat the base, but also to add some adhesion material such as tapes, glue sprays.

These types of variations must be evaluated in each impression because they determine the success or failure of the piece.

Replace nozzles periodically

There are nozzles of different materials that will facilitate the printing of some special or highly engineered filaments and will be more resistant, however they all begin to show wear, if you cannot find the reason for some clogging failures or poor quality in your printing, it may be this the reason

Properly store your filament

The condition of the filament changes thanks to the  weather, the plastic could be absorbing moisture if not properly stored in a dry place and cause clogging due to drastic changes in composition and/or extrusion temperature.

Change of  filament

Make sure that the extrusion system is properly cleaned when changing the filament, changing the printing parameters could leave plastic residues that probably carbonized or crystallized causing obstructions.

SD or MicroSD memory

Many failures in electronics are generated by static damage, which can damage the memories of our printers when handling them.

Validate that your memories are working well, since it causes abrupt failures.

Print settings

All printers have a speed limit, increase speed  more than what your team is capable of, will cause failures, step jumps in your motors, and above all low quality in your parts.

First Layer

It is one of the points that more attention should be paid to 3D printing,  Make a first layer as slow and as low as possible, you ensure the success of your piece by more than 50%.

print file

Validate the models in your laminator, verify that there are no errors in the mesh, openings or points in the air.

Not all CAD files are optimized for printing.
